I had planned to have a photograph of my rose bush in here, but sadly due to neither weeding the flower bed or watering the thing there are no flowers to show this year. Good job the good old Beeb had a pic I’ve “borrowed” instead…
Every August 1st is Yorkshire Day, an institution started in 1975 by the soldiers of the Yorkshire Regiment laying white roses on the graves of fallen comrades. Not surprisingly, there is a lot going on in the Broad Acres today, including the annual trek across the western border to those towns and villages handed over to the other side when the current boundaries were drawn up.
Myself, being sat in an office straddling the Bedfordshire/Cambridgeshire border means that I’m not visibly celebrating this year. Had a bottle of Landlord around midnight last night, with the resulting gas build-up carrying me over to this morning, but it’s not the same if you aren’t back up north! Still, you don’t forget these things, however silly they are.
To all my fellow Tykes out there, raise your glass of rough stuff to Yorkshire Day once more. Or something like that anyway…

Ah why is it nearly impossible to search for sheet music on the internet? All I need is a suitable arrangement of some music for the wedding that can be passed on to the church organist but I’m drawing a massive blank!!! I’d go into specifics but the piece in question is top secret, but if anyone happens to know a good place to look then please let me know…

We’ve had many a conversation about the merits of having a separate, stand alone, wedding website and the debate still rages on. I can see the point of publishing details and the like, but to go to the effort of producing a multiple page monolith? No siree! As far as I am concerned, we’re going to maybe at most publish some pages that attach to one or other of our blogs. Just simply to say where the church/reception is, and any gift list details needed.
Sadly not everyone seems to have this view point, as I’ve seen my fair share of over the top and potentially pompous stuff on the web. Honestly it’s a wedding, and the only people who need to care about minute details are the bride and groom! But that’s just my opinion - rant over for now…

I’ve had problems for a while now with sorting out websites via FTP connections, as I’d end up timing out before a connection to the server was made. Now I’m no major computer whizz but I usually know how to sort things, but everything I tried failed.
Since then I’ve found out my problem was that I was running not one but TWO firewalls on my computer, both the Windows version as well as the one with my virus scanner. That sort of would explain why nothing was happening, but I never asked Windows to install and arm it’s flipping firewall in the first place. Grrr!!!
Anyway, the bonus of getting FTP to work again is that I’ve finally managed to make a better logo and upload it. I’m happier with this one than the last, not least because it looks like it’s something you need half a brain to make for once…

It’s amazing how things end up ballooning up and away from simple beginnings, and our honeymoon plans have rocketed completely! I’ve suspected it for a while now, but a trip to the travel agent on Thursday confirmed that we’re now looking at a round the world trip. So not originally on my radar, but hey it’s definitely something to get me through the hardship at work at the mo…

My car is fast approaching the age where I need an MOT certificate, and my many trips to and from MK pre-September has meant the mileage is higher than I’d like. It came as no surprise that today I went through the 50,000 miles barrier, but was ever so slightly amusing to see how many miles were on the trip counter as I passed the milestone…

I’ve just returned from the north and a weekend under canvas (or whatever they call the stuff that tents are made of these days!!!) which had the pleasant surprise of quite a bit of snow. This photo was taken the morning after the night before, but going to bed in a blizzard is always a joyful experience…

Aaaagh! It’s been mad here recently, as work is having me do a passable imitation of a pinball! Am on a long weekend thankfully so batteries will recharge ready for more fun next week. Can’t wait…

I’ve been working in London recently on a project at work, which has the unfortunate pleasure of commuting by train from MK into Euston at ungodly hours. Cue lack of sleep and general tiredness, but that’s life.
Anyway, last night on the way home I caught the local train which stopped at Leighton Buzzard then MKC. I was reading one of those free papers you get in London and didn’t even think anything was wrong when the train announcer said we had stopped at Bletchley. Hadn’t even crossed my mind that the train wasn’t supposed to stop there and in fact we had been sat at the platform at MKC for a good 5 mins before I realised anything was wrong. I looked out of the window to see a rather familiar station and just got off the train before it pulled out!
How bloody stupid can you get? I know that Bletchley is one of the 3 stations within the MK city limits but it isn’t Central station - why the hell the stupid announcer said that was where we were is beyond me! To cap it all off I asked a station attendant this morning whether I could complain, to which the spotty teenager said “you got off the train didn’t you?”. Makes you feel good inside eh?
